Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H with embedded ATI Radeon HD3200
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD3650

Without fglrx installed, the system would reboot as soon as X is started
(before login screen)
This occurred on the live cd, however enabling all of the options in the F6
menu allowed the live cd to boot into the 2d gnome.
I then installed it to the hard drive thinking that I could try various
configurations.

The most interesting thing is that booting into the recovery console and
selecting failsafeX causes the system to boot as well.

I removed the video card and and booted with the on board card and the same
problem existed.
I also tried the ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/ppa to see if there was a newer driver,
however I do not recall any changes.

The solution was to install the fglrx driver.

I had a thread on the forum about this while I was trying various things:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1751760

This bug was filed with ubuntu-bug while using the fglrx driver, let me
know if there is anything that is needed.
