I'm seeing the same behaviour on my Xfce system, upgraded from 10.10 to
11.04. Whenever I minimize an application, restoring it results in a
window that can no longer be mapped properly. Scale doesn't see it.
Clicking on the application in the task list panel applet sometimes
helps, but most of the time, if the window is there, I can't focus it as
clicking on it makes it invisible and the application that was running
behind it pops up. When I click on the place where the window should be,
it comes back into view but unfocussed. Focus cannot be send to the app
either. Alt+tab doesn't always work. Shading the window doesn't help
much either, sometimes it makes things worse. Only way to fix this on my
system is to close the application and start it again.

My laptop has a different issue with minimized applications. It doesn't
display the problem noted above, but instead it moves the window on the
panel as if it's newly created. The Xfce4 tasklist applet can sort
entries based on timestamp, putting them from old to new in a left to
right order.

Both systems have a very minimal installation and do not have Unity. All
they have is Compiz-fusion from Ubuntu and Emerald window decorator from
a PPA (because the Ubuntu version segfaults). Both use an nVidia card
with the same driver (nVidia-current). PC has a 7800 GTX, laptop an NVS
3100M.
