Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

All of a sudden I am getting audio problems with vlc. First of all the
audio seems out of sync with the video (if I am playing a video file)
Also I get an echo (with about a second of delay) which sounds very
static. It's not really an echo, more like a second audio stream (with
an echo) which lags even more. I get this playing any audio or video
file with vlc. This has not happened before in previous versions, this
does not happen with other video/audio applications...
