Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xchat
XChat listens and responds to identd messages from IRC servers, but
doesn't bother opening a port on the router to allow the response to be
sent. Doing so would speed up connection times to IRC servers. The
port could then be closed as it does not need to remain open. This
should, of course, be a configurable option.
Configuring the open port on the router manually isn't very helpful
where multiple IRC users exist on the same network, DHCP is active, or
an IRC user may change computers (laptop to desktop, for example).
