This happens to me too. compiz jumps from 62MB (resident memory) to 1.4GB after a day. Everything slows to a crawl while the system tries to keep up with the load of swapping. It's weird no one noticed it, but maybe it's because most people don't leave their sessions opened as long as I do.
In my case, I'm using an Intel 82946GZ/GL graphics card.
