Greg K Nicholson, this issue is unreproducible in LibreOffice Calc via the Terminal:
cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/429111/+attachment/749792/+files/crash.ods && localc -nologo crash.ods typed a few characters in both sheets, saved the file, no crash.
