Public bug reported:
I bought an OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS 120 GB solid state drive (firmware version
2.02) with the intent to make it my boot and system drive.
I first tried doing a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit. Install went fine,
but the system hung after the install completed and attempted to reboot.
I then added my old drive back and tried to boot. Sometimes after a long delay,
it would boot, but the SSD was not visible to Linux. Other times it would fail
to find the boot drive from its ID. Other times it would dump me into busybox.
Disconnecting the SSD would restore my system to stability. Sometimes during
boot attempts I could see the message "softreset failed (1st FIS failed)" show
up several times.
This was all with the south bridge SATA ports.
My motherboard (Asus P6T Deluxe V1) also has SAS ports. I enabled them
(adding 30 seconds to the bios boot) and attached the SSD to a SAS port.
I did this assuming that this would use different drivers. With this set
up, I can boot Linux with the SSD attached, but not boot from the SSD.
Booting from a different drive, it seems I can access the SSD without
problems in Linux. Attempting to boot from the SSD leaves me with a
black screen and a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.
