I have just upgraded from the previous kernel with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade... it installed without any error messages, and from the boot, the failed to get to the GUI.
I have figured out I needed to boot from a previous version (which worked), then apt-get autoremove --purge the image, headers and a nvidia driver dependency (dkms) and reinstall them... After that, it has just worked, no other step was necessary. Have in mind I have since upgraded to Natty (which failed catastrophically, forcing me to make a clean install) so it will be impossible to try it again, but the bug was there. 2011/5/16 Herton R.
