Does network manager indicate whether you are online or offline? Firefox
gets the network status from there, so if network manager says you are
not connected, then Firefox is behaving as expected. There is a pref to
disable this check though (network.manage-offline-status in Firefox 4,
although it was called something else in Firefox 3.6)
