You are right. Just logged me of and logged on again: it isn't the 
.emerald-directory. The same problem just occurred again (still: only the last 
that doesn't work) 
Was thinking what i did  else in the previous session: I changed the 
backgroundpicture for my gnome-desktop. Have repeated this: shifted to desktop 
number 2, selected another picture with right mouse-click on the desktop 
'change background'  and I can now minize all windows. 
Pretty stupid I must say.   How can setting a background-picture and compiz 
interact with each other? I really don't understand this.
