Same problem here when I start a unity-2D-Session from console by typing "gnome-session --session=2d-ubuntu" Everything else works fine, it's just that indicator-appmenu won't work for GTK-Applications. Curiously enough, it does work for Firefox and LibreOffice.
Although this doesn't seem to be a bug, could anybody kindly tell me and the threadstarter, which environment variables should be exported - and how this should be done?
