I've found a less than satisfactory, but acceptable solution until this
bug is fixed. When I log in, the first thing I do is issue the command
"xset -dpms" to turn off the energy star features (standby, suspend,
off). This means I can now have my screensaver active and close the lid
on my laptop, but the screen never turns off.

Not the best solution for the monitor, but if this bug is fixed soon,
then it is acceptable for now. Has there been any headway on the root
of the problem?
