Thanks for your bug report. From the information given in your alsa-info
output, it appears you have built newer versions of the alsa packages.
Maverick has 1.0.23, whereas you have all 1.0.24 components. There is a
good chance that this has broken the audio stack on your system. My
suggestion is to check the directories under /usr/local and remove
anything associated with alsa, or asound. I'd also suggest you check in
/lib/modules/$kernelversion, where $kerneleversion is the version of the
kernel you are currently running, and remove any modules relating to
sound. Then, I'd re-install the kernel package to make sure everything
is clean, i.e apt-get --reinstall install linux-image-$kernelversion.
The Ubuntu kernel does support your hardware properly, so I don't see
any reason why you need to run newer alsa code. If after all of this
your sound still doesn't work, I suggest booting a 10.10 live CD, and
checking to see if sound works there. If so, then there is more breakage
that needs fixing on your system, about which I cannot advise/suggest.
