"Editing atilibusb out of /etc/modprobe.d/lirc-blacklist allows the module to be loaded" is, um, well, nonsensical. Config files in /etc/modprobe.d/ are for configuring kernel module loading params. atilibusb isn't a kernel module. Its a userspace lircd driver plugin.
