If you use NVIDIA drivers you can easily add under xorg.conf the
following setting:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
