Hi Luke. Thank you for your replay! The machine is a desktop.
The problem I have is simple: With maverick I was able to listen to my music only with headphones, the internal speaker has been muted. Since natty I am no more able to mute the internal speaker. So my office mates has to listen "Hüsker Dü", and they don't like it at all :-) It seems the internal speaker and headphone are switched together. When I try to mute the internal (front) speaker in alsamixer (or gnome alsa mixer) headphone is muted as well. There is no way at the time to listen to the sound only thru headphones, the front speaker can not be muted. Thanks for your help!
