I can confirm this bug on a IBM Thinkpad T23 (2647-4MG).
"lspci | grep Savage" reports: "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc.
SuperSavage IX/C SDR (rev 05)"
Here is my Device section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

The only difference is that I have DRI working, I've followed the
procedure described in bug #88905.
