I agree that this is *not* a duplicate. I too am experiencing occasional
failures that are
segvs rather than thrown exceptions and are not correlated with any activity.
My most recent failure occurred after a couple of minutes of no keyboard/mouse
activity
(I was listening to a talk). There was no crash info in /var/crash and the
only relevant data
from dmesg is
[ 9830.760783] soffice.bin[1668]: segfault at 29 ip 00007f775e558ada sp
00007fffc386f098 error 4 in libvclplug_genlx.so[7f775e4c9000+e1000]
This is ubuntu 11.04 and the output from uname is
Linux rjhx201 2.6.38-9-generic #43pre201105270902-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 27
11:17:56 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
