Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
It would appear that something has left lock files on /etc/passwd (and
probably /etc/shadow as well).
Please can you remove /etc/passwd.lock and /etc/shadow.lock if they are
present and try to complete the installation using the following
command:
sudo apt-get -f install
Please update this bug report if this resolves your issue.
