One further comment. I am pretty certain the problem is on Compiz, coz when I try to turn on Compiz on "Classic (no effects)" or "Unity 2D" (using instructions from here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1744455), the same problem returned as soon as Compiz kicked in
I think I might turn off all compiz effects and enable them one by one to see which effect causes the problem. I will post more up here if I find anything new.
