Hi Benjamin I purged audacity and reinstalled it... installed without error this time.
Also, audacity starts and runs without error. Are there any log files that I can "trawl" for additional information? If not, I imagine we're going to have to accept that there was some other unknown factor that caused this false failure. Thanks in advance for your assistance and time.
