I believe that the microcode issue is irrelevant.

If you look at the end of dmesg, you should see the following (or
equivalent) which indicates that the BIOS is up to date.

[ 22.356528] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.00
<[email protected]>, Peter Oruba
...
[ 22.514043] microcode: CPU0 updated to revision 0x219, date = 2009-04-10
[ 22.520024] microcode: CPU1 updated to revision 0x219, date = 2009-04-10
[ 22.524011] microcode: CPU2 updated to revision 0x219, date = 2009-04-10
[ 22.528018] microcode: CPU3 updated to revision 0x219, date = 2009-04-10

Anyway, I removed the lirc, mythbuntu-lirc-generator, and lirc-x
packages and then reinstalled them.

The installation went cleanly and the error is no longer present. I
don't know what caused the issue or what fixed it, but it is not in my
way right now, so I have little interest in this issue.

My remote is not working, but I assume that is a local configuration
problem I need to re-configure.

Thank you.
