The error message in question points to a generic problem in the package
manager, not a bug in the pam package itself. A number of bugs of this
sort have been fixed in the time since this bug was reported, so this is
probably one of them. I am therefore closing this report. If you
encounter any other bugs when using Ubuntu, please continue to report
them.
