The problem finally got me too after I've updated my system yesterday. Just the regular update, no upgrade, and now my computer doesn't show any BIOS screen, any GRUB screen oder login screen anymore.
It basically shows absolutely nothing until I get a weird greenish screen (picture a screen filled with green tildes) and a bigger greenish square in the middle that moves as I move the mouse (I guess it's supposed to be the cursor). Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work so no luck accessing a console, restarting X doesn't work either. Since I don't get any other screen, I can't even boot from a live CD as I don't know when I get the boot selection menu (I'm blind) and even then, I wouldn't know which choice the CD would be. So yeah, my computer is basically wrecked for now. I know it's software because if I unplug/plug the DVI cable (nVidia GFX) a few times or long-press the power button, I get the Ubuntu logo and sometimes some console output on the green tildes for a few seconds before it shuts down. It beats me how a software update could butcher my computer all the way to the BIOS but the worst is: I can't even use a live CD or install another distro (too many let-downs with Ubuntu lately). Even if Ubuntu proposed an update to fix this, I couldn't even find the update manager and install it, that's how broken it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776345 Title: Ubuntu 11.04 blank screen on boot -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
