Public bug reported:
My friend tried to install Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on his PC (which has a
nvidia gfx card): loaded the system with the Live CD and installed it
alright. Upon first boot, xorg couldnt start, droping to the console
with the following error:
Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist)
I thought that it could may be a defective CD, however, I noticed
another user complaining about this on the #ubuntu chat. User
<diabolikmachine> mentioned that this was probably related to the fact
that the user tried to enable desktop effects on the live cd (and I am
sure that my friend tried that as well).
SOLUTION:
<diabolikmachine> suggested to that user to do a command line login, and run
"sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx"
The user reported that the problem was fixed.
Anyway, I think that this bug can really mess the will of newcomers to
adopt ubuntu, since that many of them will try out the features in the
live CD before installing. If, upon install, they must do a command line
like that, I think that that will be a little intimidating.
