The kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39.1-oneiric/ shows the same
behaviour.
This used to work in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) so it's definitely a regression in
the Linux kernel in Ubuntu.
