Nope sorry but You are wrong.
I have the laptop and the external screen again on front of me and no what you 
says does not explain the issue.
setting mirroring or not does not change available resolution mode.
With a fresh install of kubuntu 11.04 the is still there. So please reopen this 
bug.

The issue is that xrandr does not show all resolution mode that the external 
screen is able to display.
I succeed to make the external display uses its maximum resolution by doing 
this

xrandr --newmode ..
xrandr --addmode ..
How to fix this issue ? How to make xrandr capable of detecting good available 
resolution ?
