Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-unichrome
The package says:
This driver for the X.Org X server (see xserver-xorg for a further description)
provides support for various VIA UniChrome cards, among them: VT3122, VT7205,
VT3108, VT3118, VT3344, VT3157, VT3230 and VT3343.
This driver is originally shipped to be loaded as 'via' on xorg.conf, but this
package renames it to 'unichrome', so it doesn't conflicts with the other VIA
driver already available on Ubuntu.
But after installing (and also rebooting) there seems to be no driver
"unichrome" for Xorg.
If I set the driver manually to "unichrome" in xorg.conf it says something like
"there is no module unichrome" and if I set the driver manually to "via" it
says something like "VT3343 isn't supported yet".
I'm also wondering why the package installs a "unichrome_dri.so" in
"/usr/lib/dri", when all other Xorg-drivers are in
"/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers" and are called "xyz_drv.so" (well i
guess that this are the other Xorg-drivers)?
If I copy "unichrome_dri.so" into "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers" and
rename it to "unichrome_drv.so" i can choose "unichrome" in xorg but
after reboot it says something like "Module unichrome does not have a
unichromeModuleData data object"
