Public bug reported:

In the new kernel released today for Ubuntu 10.04, namely linux-
image-2.6.32-33-generic, wireless networking using 03:00.0 Network
controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5300 on a Thinkpad T400
is broken. I can reliably document this by using the grub menu to boot
-32, which works, and -33 which does not. The wireless never comes on
and is unavailable in -33.

The problem appears to arise because the new kernel toggles the wireless
during startup. The old one does not. Here is an extract from a diff
between the messages output from the two kernels:

< Linux version 2.6.32-33-generic (buildd@yellow) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu
4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #65-Ubuntu SMP Sun Jun 5 01:43:58 UTC 2011 (Ubuntu
2.6.32-33.65-generic 2.6.32.41+drm33.18)

This is the new broken version

> 2.6.32-32.62-generic 2.6.32.38+drm33.16)

This is the old working version

Many diffs removed as probably irrelevant.
The following appear to pin down the bug.

[Obviously I'm running the ubuntu-bug program with the old kernel.]
