  This is on Natty in a KDE session with the KDE integration active.  I
  returned to a writer document I hadn't touched in some time (about 10
  hours) and as soon as I attempted to edit it, the application crashed.

+ Collecting descriptions from the dupes it seems the general scenario is:
+ 1) run LO
+ 2) leave it alone for at least 1 hour
+ 3) return to use LO
+ 
+ And it might be that this is worse on Compiz-enabled systems.
