I keep trying to fix this without success. And I'm stuck with the same message...
a quick look at this issue shows that the nvidia module is not being loaded at all (in my setup: nvidia 8600GT): [ 15.746] (II) Loading extension DRI2 [ 15.746] (==) Matched nvidia as autoconfigured driver 0 [ 15.746] (==) Matched nouveau as autoconfigured driver 1 [ 15.746] (==) Matched nv as autoconfigured driver 2 [ 15.746] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 3 [ 15.746] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 4 [ 15.746] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout [ 15.746] (II) LoadModule: "nvidia" [ 15.747] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module nvidia [ 15.747] (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia" [ 15.747] (II) Unloading nvidia [ 15.747] (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) [ 15.747] (II) LoadModule: "nouveau" [ 15.747] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so [ 15.748] (II) Module nouveau: vendor="X.Org Foundation" [ 15.748] compiled for 1.10.0, module version = 0.0.16 [ 15.748] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 15.748] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 10.0 [ 15.748] (II) LoadModule: "nv" [ 15.751] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module nv [ 15.751] (II) UnloadModule: "nv" [ 15.751] (II) Unloading nv [ 15.751] (EE) Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0) [ 15.751] (II) LoadModule: "vesa" [ 15.752] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vesa_drv.so [ 15.752] (II) Module vesa: vendor="X.Org Foundation" [ 15.752] compiled for 1.10.0, module version = 2.3.0 [ 15.752] Module class: X.Org Video Driver [ 15.752] ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 10.0 [ 15.752] (II) LoadModule: "fbdev" [ 15.752] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.so [ 15.757] (II) Module fbdev: vendor="X.Org Foundation" ... etc etc as you can see, the nvidia driver is not being loaded at all. So basically nvidia is not working. There are experimental open source drivers, but the oficial binaries are not working at all. You can boot into Unity, before trying to enable the binary drivers I was able to open Unity too (with a reaaally bad performance), but you are NOT using nvidia drivers. "They are not currently in use" is not just jockey not detecting them. it's because they are really not being used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771788 Title: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/jockey/+bug/771788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
