Hello,

Trouble is that there is no crash report when this happens .. and the 
behaviour presists.  Any more ideas?

+ I have followed the instructions on reporting application crashes 
(lsb_release and apt-cache policy <package_name>), so why would you 
consider this invalid and point me towards the OS crash procedure? the 
OS isn't crashing.
