Binary package hint: overlay-scrollbar
Hi, I suppose the current design has been discussed a lot but I still think
this could be considered.
The usability problem I find with the overlay-scrollbar is that the area you
have to point the mouse to to activate it is different from the area where the
scrollbar appears. So you have to do two mouse targeting: first left of the
small band, and then move again the pointer to target the scrollbar on the
right.
I think this is quite clumsy and slow. You have to wait for the scrollbar to
appear and then move again.
When the window is maximized things work smoothly: I target the
"invisible scrollbar", the scrollbar appears and I can use it just by
pressing the mouse button. It behaves as the traditional scrollbar.
I suppose the first behaviour was chosen not to hide the contents of the
window during scrolling, but I think this could be fixed with a little
transparency. Anyway, considering the very small size of the scrollbar,
I would happily give away that little visibility in the few cases when I
do need to see the latest few pixels in change of a smoother experience
the whole day. You can always scroll up or down a little to expose the
hidden content.
I think I would be happy with the option to have the "maximized window
behaviour" for all windows, and IMHO this should be the default.
I do not know if this is already possible: a search on google and a request on
the forum pointed to nothing.
