As per my comment, this isn't a Unity issue but an issue with the intel
Xorg drivers for SandyBridge. I also faced the issue earlier, but after
installing X from the xorg-edgers PPA (WARNING: Highly unstable, please
don't use it yourself), all the issues, microhangs, slownesses, and
hangcheck errors, are now fixed.
So this is an issue with the intel driver which will be fixed in Oneiric
when the drivers will be updated from upstream. Marking duplicate.
