We don't have a configure patch. I don't know what you're looking at. If you mean the control patch, we can't drop that because it's an Ubuntu-specific thing with ufraw-batch being in universe and thus not usable by stuff in main.
I've already dropped the upstream patch, yes. The rules patch was because the build process blew up on some multi-core boxes due to trying to run the test suite in the middle of a bunch of files being moved around by the install target.
