I have the same problem. The first search allows you to put the mouse cursor in the search box and highlight/edit text in it with the mouse , after that the mouse is unable to select test there unless you click the 'X' to the right which is a google element to clear the search, or switch to another tab and click in that window.
Its strange because it doesn't do it every time and switching between tabs seems to temporarily fix it until it happens again.
