I see this also on my Gentoo box. When receiving many packets the system
crashes after a random time and the last log entries are repeated lines
of this:

Jun 16 21:32:27 [kernel] r8169 0000:03:00.0: eth0: link up

It happened in 2.6.38.5 and still is there in 2.6.39.1. Could be that it
was also in 2.6.37.x. However I#m quite sure the 2.6.35.x kernel didn't
have this issue.

When just transmitting data or not using network at all the system runs
for days (until I turn it off).
