This can be avoided by adding "radeon.modeset=0" to the boot cmdline. Doing it 
every boot is not an acceptable solution though, because then the graphics card 
can't be turned off and it "idles" in full power, consuming a huge amount of 
battery power. 
I'm running natty on a Core i3, 330M, GMA5700MHD graphics, with a Radeon 
HD4550. Chipset is Intel Havendale/Clarkdale rev 02, HM55 rev 05. Compal NBLBX 
board.  

My stack strace looks exactly the same. I also don't know how to capture
it when it happens.
