I have had the same update-manager command line error when trying to
upgrade to Feisty :

warning: could not initiate dbus
could not send the dbus Inhibit signal: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

I had try before to run update-manager from the GUI and it failed saying
that i had to check my Internet connection, while Firefox was browsing
fine the Web at the same time !

I have just solved it by stopping Firestarter as suggested for bug <a
href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-
manager/+bug/109683">#109683</a>. A duplicate ?

Aaargh ! Is a firewall not intended to stop intrusions <b>from
outside</b> ?

Anyway my update-manager is now proceeding in downloading 1113 files.
Crackers are, please, nicely invited to go and see elsewhere while my
Firestarter is turned off.
