Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: indicator-applet
The indicator applet's icon should change (e.g. turn from gray to green)
to indicate that something it tracks has changed. For example, when it
notices new email, IM messages, or RSS posts, it should indicate that
there are new items to see. This would be a very simple change, and make
the applet useful.
The current approach is not useful because it requires the user to
remember to click the indicator applet to check if anything has changed.
This is a frustrating change because in the past, apps had their own
useful indicators (e.g. Liferea, Pidgin, Empathy, etc) and now they
don't, and there seems to be no way for a user to change this.
An indicator should indicate. If there's a philosophical reason against
this, please at least provide a way to get back the old behavior of
seeing indicators.
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with indicator-applet 0.4.12-0ubuntu1.
