Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-shell
Running oneiric fully updated.
HOW TO REPRODUCE:
Click in Activities -> Applications and gnome-shell crashes.
DETAILS:
I've tried to debug gnome-shell and got no conclusive results. But when
looking for the output, I've noticed the following line: "Aviso do
gerenciador de janelas: Log level 6: applications.menu not found."
When looking for "applications.menu" in packages.ubuntu.com, the package
'gnome-menus' was listed. Anyway, when looking for contents of that
package, the file /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu was not there.
WORKARROUND:
As suspected, the file applications.menu was renamed (or something like
this) to gnome-applications.menu. I've executed the following commands
and the problem is gone:
cd /etc/xdg/menus/
sudo ln -s gnome-applications.menu applications.menu
gnome-shell --replace
