Places menu? Are you using Unity or the old classic desktop? Could you
kindly post a screenshot of the window which comes up when you click
something in the places menu?
As for the brasero issue, it seems to be a separate bug. Please file a
new bug for that, by running >> ubuntu-bug brasero << in a terminal.

i am using 11.04 natty and i can't open my trash bin or the first 6
options in the places menu. all i get is a connection closed and a
desktop viewer window.
