I think that the bug is different than bug 560272. Maximus used to work
correctly with Ubuntu 10.04, under the GNOME desktop, while there were
problems with XFCE. Here, I'm having this error with GNOME since I moved
to Ubuntu 11.04.

On a side note, it is possible to obtain the very same behaviour using Compiz, 
and that one works better.
To maximise the windows, open the CompizConfig application, and select 
"Maximise" in the placement mode.
Then, to remove the window frame when the window is maximised, select "Window 
Decoration" in the CompizConfig application, and in "Decoration windows" type 
"!state=maxvert". It works just like Maximus, without the bugs. Enjoy!
