Mine is an Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) laptop chipset. I've pretty much given up getting usb to work on this laptop. If I unbind the driver from one port then the issue comes back a little later on a different one. I keep meaning to boot it into Windows to confirm that it is in fact a hardware error and will follow up here if I ever do. To avoid spamming the console I just boot with the nousb kernel option.
