Are you running ufw or some other FW on your machines?

Then have a look what is shows in the logs. Try 'tail -f
/var/log/syslog' in a terminal window.  Look at it for a while so you
see what is normal.   Then start your programs that doesn't work.

Post the output the is relevant to your machines or servers IP address.
In ufw, I might look like this:

[UFW BLOCK] IN=br0 OUT= MAC= SRC=192.168.1.20 DST=239.255.255.250
LEN=122 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=53194 DPT=1900
LEN=102
