Public bug reported:

On "load existing file," attempt to playback or select region is greeted
with "Unable to open device /dev/dsp."

Invoking program with "padsp sweep" achieves playback with noise, seemingly 
increasing as playback continues.  
Results no different on playback of ogg, mp3 and wav file formats.

AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor on ASUS 
M4A785-M motherboard.  
Card 0 in use, codec VIA VT1708S.
