launchpad does not support multiple issues in one bug report so I have
edited this bug report to focus on one issue, please report the other
issue as new bug

** Summary changed:

- autohidden launcher doesn't reliably unhide; often cannot type in alt-F2
window
+ autohidden launcher doesn't reliably unhide

** Description changed:

I have the launcher set to autohide and to reveal when I put the pointer
at the left side of the screen. Most of the time, putting the pointer at
the left side of the screen reveals the launcher. Sometimes, it takes
several "pushes" to the left side of the screen plus one or more clicks
on other windows then back on the desktop, to get the launcher to
  finally show up.

- The alt+F2 menu (and the apps menu you get to by clicking the ubuntu
- logo in the top left corner) usually has a text field in it that you can
- type in to search or to run a command. Most of the time this works fine.
- But sometimes it is impossible to type in it (cursor appears, but typed
- characters do not). I've also seen in forum posts that there's supposed
- to be a drop-down menu with a little arrow at the right side of this
- menu. That arrow has only shown up once in a while for me (I've seen it
- 2 or 3 times since the 11.04 upgrade).
-
Using Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ602
  graphics: Radeon 6300 HD
