This also happens to my friend when mounting my usb hard drive(ext3). It never
failed before 11.04, and it worked on 11.04 a while ago.
Looks like it has something to do with the fstab file not having a UUID for the
"/" mount point, as described at
http://www2b.abc.net.au/science/techtalk/newposts/795/topic795027.shtm.
Somewhat geeky methods may be required to recover from a incorrectly written
fstab - try it at your own risk.
Marking the report as incomplete as more information may be required to narrow
down the cause to this problem.
