Public bug reported:

I am using a sony dfw v500 firewire camera. this is like a 10 year old
defacto standard in firewire capture... it's the 3com 3c905 of firewire
cameras.

Basically firewire_core is seeing it... and creating a /dev/fw1 for
it... but that's pretty much useless everywhere for everything since
nothing is written to use firewire_core. The only people using
firewire_core are people who don't use firewire.

Title:
It appears that Natty removed most of the raw 1394 support in favor of
firewire_core. This broke most dv capture setups in existence.
Someone needs to readd raw1394 and ohci1394 kernel modules to ubuntu
natty. please tell your security guys who are humping firewire_core
  to stop being retarded.
