Thank you Abhishek for your prompt answer.
The CD looks actually fine:
doing a
md5sum -c md5sum.txt |grep -v "OK"
on the top level md4sum.txt file in the cd gave no output (ie the keys are
fine).
And in fact the first time I installed it Ubuntu worked fine.
Am I right in assuming that during a CD installation, even if you don't
download upgrades, the installation process downloads something from the
net?
